January/February GCE 2018-2019: The West African Examination Council has created a new diet of its examination to cater for a large number of external candidates registering for it examination with the introduction of the January/February GCE 2018 online registration examination.



 Intending candidates for the WASSCE for private candidates 2018/2019- First series are hereby informed that the registration would be online. West African Examination Council (WAEC) council head, National office, Mr. Olu Adenipekun, disclosed this at the unveiling of the examination guide for all private candidates’ in Lagos. This is to create room for more candidates to better their chances in performance and discourage the large number of external candidates registering for the WASSCE meant for school candidates.

You will recall that examination of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) usually runs in two sessions, WASSCE for MAY/JUNE candidates and WAEC GCE for private candidates by November/December each year.

Before you start your online application for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) 2018, its best you know the vital fact about the new examination. This information includes;

  • The first series of the WASSCE for private candidates in 2018 would be an urban-based examination, i.e it will only be conducted in the urban areas of the country only for now.
  • Candidates will only be examined in 19 subjects
  • Centers for this examination will be located in cities and urban areas where we have large number of candidates.
  • The examination will start by January 2018 and runs till February 2018.
  • Online sales of form for the private candidates will commence by early December 2017.


The Normal registration period is from Monday October 9th 2017 till Friday December 29th, 2017. After obtaining registration pin, candidates should log on to; www.waeconline.org.ng for registration.

All candidates should also note that the registration procedure has been designed to accommodate biometric features that will be used for validation at the exam center.

Requirement for the January/February GCE 2018-2019 Registration- Procedures

You will need a passport and your birth certificate to start your online application as candidates for the examination. Candidates must complete the online registration within two weeks of first access on the website during the registration periods. They should ensure that their names, gender, passport photographs, date of birth and subjects are correct before submission. They are to also print the admission photo-card as evidence of registration; this will serve as their photo-card during the examination. The result checker pin will also be included. Please note that only digital personal scanner should be used for finger print registration.

Intending candidates for the examination are therefore strongly advised to visit the council’s corporate website www.waeconline.org.ng to confirm available examination towns and subjects before obtaining the registration PIN.


Candidates are expected to pay a registration fee of N13, 950 at any of the approved bank or any accredited agents to obtain the registration pin and information VCD.
